Australia’s security concern over BD tour groundless: Minister
Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday claimed that the decision of Australia cricket team to delay their trip to Bangladesh over security concerns is totally groundless.
‘Our country is now secure and there is no scope for the rise of any militant outfit. So their report about security concern in our country is groundless. Law and order situation in our country is under control,’ said the minister to journalists at the Secretariat.
Asaduzzaman Khan said we can give them full assurance that there will be no problem with the Australian cricket team when they will come to our country.
‘We do not have any risk and security problem for playing local and international matches in our country,’ said the minister.
He also said a team from Australia is coming on Sunday to investigate the security system. I hope that they will be satisfied with the security system.
‘In the past we had arranged many national and international cricket tournaments in our country and we never faced any troubles. So I expect that the Australian cricket team will come to Bangladesh for playing,’ he added.
Earlier on Sunday, Cricket Australia delayed the departure of its test team for a two-match tour in Bangladesh due to concerns about the safety and security of the team.
Responding to a question regarding the upcoming tour of Bangladesh Women’s national cricket team in Pakistan, the minister said the decision to send the women’s cricket team was taken based on an investigation report.
