Srinivasan removed as ICC chairman
N Srinivasan, much-maligned former President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has reportedly been removed from his position as ICC Chairman and will be replaced by current BCCI President Shashank Manohar, reports Cricket Country.
Srinivasan has been a controversial figure ever since his alleged corruption in BCCI and Indian Premier League (IPL) administration came to light, boosted by the IPL 2013 spot-fixing and betting controversy.
Srinivasan was in a steady rise to power, and was the major reason behind the formation of The Big Three coalition with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) that further fragmented ICC.
Earlier, according to an unnamed source in BCCI, Manohar and Anurag Thakur were unhappy with Srinivasan.
‘After Jagmohan Dalmiya’s death and the change at the top, equations within the BCCI have changed. The secretary Anurag Thakur and president Manohar now enjoy the numbers. Of late, the secretary and president haven’t been happy with the way Srinivasan has been representing BCCI at the ICC…This could end the Srinivasan era, for now. But in BCCI, things can always change.’
Manohar could also replace Srinivasan at the helm of ICC. Manohar is currently serving as BCCI President since the demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya. Manohar has a reputation of being honest, which is exactly what BCCI needs at the moment following a number of murky proceedings that have given BCCI a negative image in cricketing circles.
