Dhaka: A stage decoration worker was injured in an accident right before the inauguration ceremony of the 3rd Bangladesh Premiere League (BPL) was about to kick off on Friday in Dhaka, confirms a fire service official.

The injured man was named as Jamal who fell from the ceiling of the stage as he was giving the final touches to the stage illumination before the much-waited tournament was about to begin at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, said fire service and civil defence official Mamun Mahmud.

Jamal was taken to a nearby hospital with reports saying that his condition was critical, but not fatal.

The inaugural ceremony, however, began at about 5:30pm with a huge enthusiastic crowd attending it. The programme is being aired live by private television Channel 9.
