BD women’s team qualifies for ICC World T20
The target was not big for the Zimbabwean women as Bangladesh women’s cricket team could post only 89 in the semi-final of the qualifying tournament in Bangkok on Thursday.
But, Zimbabwe failed to make it and Bangladesh women’s team booked their place in the ICC World Twenty20 by beating Zimbabwe by 31 runs.
Bangladesh was sent into bat first. They put 89-5 in their 20 overs. Fargana Haque’s run-a-ball 43 was the main contribution to post the total.
Zimbabwe was all out for 58 runs in 19.1 overs that confirmed Bangladesh will be playing in the prestigious tournament for the second time in a row.
For Bangladesh, Rumana Ahmed took four wickets spending just eight runs while Fatima Khatun and Shaila Sharmin claimed two wickets each.
Bangladesh has been unbeaten so far in the eight-team qualifying tournament. They will face Ireland or Scotland in the final.
Bangladesh will join reigning champion Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies in the event proper, which will be staged alongside the men’s event from 11 March to 3 April 2016.
