Bangladesh beat Nepal in Int’l friendly

Dhaka: Bangladesh beat Nepal team by a solitary goal in the international friendly warm-up match of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship at Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Thursday.

Bangladesh forward Shakhawat Rony scored the match winning goal in the 18th minutes by a header from unmarked position utilising a neat cut cross from left flank off a Yeamin Munna, 1-0.

Yeamin Munna ran down the ball from left flank to cut a neat cross, unmarked Shakhawat Rony headed the ball home.

Bangladesh dominated the first half by 1-0 goal. Nepal tried their best to equalise the match playing pressing football in the 2nd half, but all the efforts went in vain.

Nepal showed a good control over the ball in the in the match from very early while Bangladesh were depending on individual skills.

Nepal missed the first opportunity to convert from a corner in the five minutes as the ball was cleared by Bangladesh defense.

Nepal continued the pressing football and in the 10th minutes Heman Gurung tokk a long ranger landed shot directly in to the gloves of new keeper Ashraful Islam Rana.

Nepal spoiled another chance in the 25th minutes as Heman Gurung free kick from 25 yards went over the crosspiece.

In the 29th minutes Nepal came close to equalize, but Jitendra Kumar Karki’s shot from the box was nicely saved by goalie Ashraful Islam Rana.

In the 66th minutes Rohid Chand found Bangladesh goalie Rana out of his position, but the ball rolled out near the side bar.

The Nepalese football team arrived in the city on Tuesday evening to play the friendly as part of their preparation before the eight-nation South SAFF Championship, namely SAFF Suzuki Cup.

Including the day’s friendly Bangladesh played 21 matches against Nepal. Of them, Bangladesh tasted 14 victories while Nepal won in the five matches and the rest two matches ended in draw.

Bangladesh starting XI: Ashaful Islam Rana, Yaeamin Munna, Nasiruddin Chowdhury, Yeasin Kahn, Nasirul Islam Nasir, Hemanta Vincent Biswas,

Mamunul Islam Mamun, Zahid Hossain, Sohel Rana and Shakhawat Rony.

Nepal starting XI: Bikash Kuthu, Biraj Maharjan, Aditya Chowdhury, Bishal Rai, Anjan Bista, Anil Gurung, Heman Gurung, Bikram Lama, Jitendra, Karki, Ranjit Dhimal and Nabin Lama.
