Dhaka: Bangladesh cricket team ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza formally signed deal with Rangpur Riders for the 5th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 which will start on November 4.

The signing ceremony was held at East West Media Conference Hall in the city on Sunday.

Bashundhara Group, Rangpur Riders’ new owner, vice chairman Safwan Sobhan was present in the signing ceremony.

In the last two editions of BPL, Mashrafe played for Comilla Victorians the franchise tested their maiden title victory in 2015 under his captaincy.

Mashrafe captained the Dhaka Gladiators, later renamed Dhaka Dynamiters, for the two successive BPL titles in 2012 and 2013 editions.

Mashrafe has an impressive record in BPL T20 as Dhaka and Comilla franchises lifted titles under his leadership.

Earlier on Friday, Rangpur’s chief executive officer CEO Ishtiaque Sadeque Ishtiaq Sadik announced that they recruited Mashrafe as an icon player and also handed captaincy.

The franchise has already signed a three-year contract with former Australian cricketer Tom Moody as coach.

They have recruited Chris Gayle and Samuel Badri (West Indies), Ravi Bopara (England) and Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka).

Meanwhile, Comilla has already signed Bangladesh dashing opener Tamim Iqbal Khan as their icon player.
