Dhaka: President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hasan Papon on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court verdict that empowered the BCB to amend its constitution and thus hold its election.

"It's a good decision...but we're yet to get the copy of the full judgment. Once we get it, we'll be able to take initiatives to hold election to the BCB in October," said Papon while talking to journalists on the BCB premises following the SC verdict at noon.

"With this order, all the barriers to the arrangement of the board's Annual General Meeting (AGM), Especial General Meeting (EGM) and the election have been removed," Papon said.

A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Wednesday morning passed an order saying that BCB can amend its constitution. It disposed of an appeal filed by the BCB and National Sports Council (NSC).

In its observation, the apex court sought that the NSC has no authority to amend the BCB's constitution.

On January 27, 2013, an HC bench declared the amended constitution of the BCB illegal after hearing a writ petition.

The following day, the NSC and the BCB filed a petition seeking a stay on the HC verdict. Later, the Chamber Judge stayed the HC order and sent the petition to the full bench of the Appellate Division.
