Shakib fortunate this time
Fortune favours the brave. This proverb was proved again. This time Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the lucky person. Wayne Parnell threw the ball to stumps but the bell did not fall. Finally Shakib’s unbeaten 44 runs offered first win to Jamaica Tallawahs over Barbados Tridents.
Tallawahs played the second match of this season’s CPL-2017 against Barbados. Tallawahs started well with the bat but in the eleventh over they lost some wickets and walked on back foot.
Pakistani blower Wahab Riaz took three wickets, Lendl Simmons, Imad Wasim and Rovman Powell in one over to smash the top order.
Then Shakib came to the middle and took the responsibility. Shakib was content to ride in McCarthy’s slipstream during their 84-run fifth-wicket stand until the 19th over, when he went toe-to-toe with Wahab. A length ball at the start was creamed over long-off for six, before Shakib charged him to pull a short ball over wide long-on for four. Wahab tried to go full next ball and Shakib responded by walking across to paddle through fine leg for four.
He then carved one over cover off Wayne Parnell in the 20th, and finished unbeaten 44 off 32.
In reply, Barbados took 142 against 154 runs. And Tallawahs clinched a 12-run victory over the Barbados.
