Dhaka: World number one all-rounder across all formats of cricket Shakib Al Hasan on Thursday said he does not regret that he could not play more Test matches, having completed 10 years for his country in the longest version.

"I don't have many regrets in my life. So I won't say I regret how many Tests I have played. I would have felt better, if I had played more," Shakib said, while talking to reporters at a press conference after the Tigers' practice sessions at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur here on Thursday.

Walking down the memory lane, Shakib said, "There was an excitement on my Test debut but I didn't think of how many Tests I would play or be able to play. That was a kind of excitement. That doesn't mean now I do not have the excitement. At present the atmosphere is different as well as the responsibilities and the feelings."

Shakib made his Test debut in May 2007 and so far has played 49 matches. By comparison, Australian captain Steve Smith, who made his debut in 2010, has already played 54 Test matches.

Coming up to his 50th Test match, Shakib has scored 3,479 runs, at an average of 40.92, in 92 innings featuring five centuries and 21 half centuries. With the ball, Shakib has captured 176 wickets, at an average of 33.04, with best figures of 7/36 in an innings.

"How many matches I have played is not important. Important is how well I played," Shakib expressed his satisfaction, adding the Test against England stands out as the most memorable moment for him. In that match, Bangladesh defeated the English side by 108 runs for the first time in the longest format, in Dhaka in October 2016.

However, he is nurturing high hopes to win the upcoming two-match Test series against tough opponents Australia as he said, "Expectation is to win the two Tests."

Mentioning Australia as a difficult opponent, Shakib said no matter which level of Australian team came here, there is no team in the world which can adapt to the conditions better than them. "To this extent, this is a challenging series for us," he added.

While asked about his current form, the all-rounder said this year is going well and he will try to do better both in batting and bowling. "As we want to win the Test series, we have to perform well in all departments -- batting, bowling and fielding," the left-hander added.

"As their (Australian) team is a bit new, inexperienced and not in good form, we may expect something good for us," Shakib concluded.

The first Test (August 27-31) will be held at SBNCS in Dhaka while the 2nd one (September 4-8) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
