Dhaka: In the first innings Bangladesh get 43 runs lead over Australia in the first Test match.

Australia scored 217 in reply to Bangladesh’s 206 runs. After brilliant batting all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan picked up fine wickets while Mehedi Miraz took 3 and Taijul Islam took one wicket.

Pat Cummins and Ashton Agar fought against the tide to produce Australia's longest partnership of the innings, after Bangladesh threatened to take a hefty first-innings lead on the second day in Mirpur. At tea, Australia were 193 for 8, with Cummins on 25 and Agar on 22, and they had chipped Australia's deficit away to 67 runs.

There were moments of good fortune, such as when Cummins skied a chance off Shakib Al Hasan on 11 and saw Shafiul Islam spill a straightforward chance, but the patience shown by Cummins and Agar was for the most part exemplary. They had come together with the score on 144 for 8 in the 44th over, and by the tea break they had occupied the crease for nearly 24 overs.
