Double digit Test victories for Tigers
Bangladesh had to wait long five years for their first Test win after becoming a Test playing nation in 2000. The historic win came against Zimbabwe in 2005. The number of victories halted in single digit for next one era. The wait is now over with the historic maiden win against mighty Australia in Dhaka Test on Wednesday. The Tigers claimed their tenth win in Test cricket at the home ground.
In the last couple of years, Bangladesh have proved their prowess as a strong and capable ODI side. Bangladesh is able to do the same in the oldest format too given they would get to play more Test matches. The victories against England, Sri Lanka and Australia are clear signal to Tigers’ future positive performances in cricket’s oldest format.
Bangladesh had their second and third Test wins during the Windies tour in 2009. The fourth victory came after another four-year gap when Bangladesh won against the host Zimbabwe in 2013.
In 2014, Bangladesh whitewashed visiting Zimbabwe. Bangladesh won three Test matches in the series. But, winning against low-ranking teams such as Zimbabwe could not prove Tigers’ capability as a strong Test playing nation. Bangladesh needed victories against top-ranked countries such as England and Australia.
Since last year, Bangladesh started the mission. Bangladesh failed to claim their first victory against England in the first match of the two-Test series at home in 2016. They conceded a 22-run loss. The wait was over in the next match. Bangladesh defeated England in the historic Chittagong Test.
Bangladesh taste another ‘first’ in the very next tour. This time they defeated Sri Lanka. The team Tigers keep up the momentum in the current Test series against Australia. They claimed the historic win against the Aussies to make it the tenth win in Test. Is there any doubt that Bangladesh will continue the dream journey?
