Dhaka: The Bangladesh cricket team, now touring South Africa to play a full-fledged series, facing injury problems ahead of the first match of the two-Test series against the Proteas, beginning September 28 at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

Bangladeshi opening batsman Tamim Iqbal retired hurt on the first day of the three-day tour match on Thursday against South African Invitational X1 scoring only 5 runs at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.

Another opener Soumya Sarker, who made 43 runs in the first innings on Thursday, picked up a hand injury during fielding on the 2nd day on Friday.

As a result, both the Bangladeshi opening batsmen failed to open the team's 2nd innings on Saturday, leaving Liton Das and Imrul Kayes to take their place.

So, Tamim and Soumya put in the tail-ender of Bangladesh's 2nd innings.
However, the latest injury status of both the Bangladeshi cricketers will be informed by Bangladesh team management after the three-day tour match.

Following the injuries to two key players, Bangladesh team faced an awkward situation to field a strong team against their tough first Test against South Africa, especially their top order.

Earlier, Bangladesh team missed their world famed all rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is on leave during the Test series against South African.

Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain also failed to initially accompany the team as he was not given security clearance from the South African authorities. By the time he finally left Dhaka for South Africa on Thursday, it was to miss the three-day match warm -up match.
