Tigers, Proteas ODI series kick off Sunday

Dhaka: Bangladesh will face host South Africa in the first ODI of their three-match series starting at De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley on Thursday.

The match will begin at 2:00pm (Bangladesh time) where the full-strength Tigers' will look to draw inspiration having the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza to put up a better show in the series than they did in the 2-Test series.

Bolstered by the return of AB de Villiers, the other camp South Africa will look to affirm its authority over the visitors in the ODIs too under the new leadership of Faf du Plessis.

It will be the du Plessis's first assignment as full-time ODI captain after he took over the reins from de Villiers, who stepped down from the post after the Champions Trophy.

Both the sides' will take the ground for ODI with the series after their ICC Champions Trophy in England in June 2017 where Bangladesh made it to the maiden semifinals berth with a surprise win against New Zealand, but South Africa crushed out from the group stage losing to India.

In their most recent ODIs in 2015, hosts Bangladesh won the last two ODIs of a three-match series to claim the series. But among their b 17 ODIs the Proteas have won 14, including winning six of six at home all by handsome margins, while Bangladesh managed three wins since October 2002.

The 2nd and 3rd ODI will be held at Boland Park and Buffalo Park on October 18 and 22 respectively.

Bangladesh: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain), Imrul Kayes, Liton Kumar Das, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal and Taskin Ahmed.

South Africa: Faf du Plessis (captain), Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, Jean-Paul Duminy, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Dane Paterson, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius and Kagiso Rabada.
