Sylhet: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to set up a cricket academy in Sylhet with a view to picking up good cricketers for the national team.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon made this announcement while inaugurating the 5th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 Cricket at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Expressing his much pleasure with the charming natural beauty of the stadium, the BCB boss said, "Sylhet Stadium is one of the best cricket venues in the world. We are interested to arrange more international cricket here on regular basis subject to increase the indoor facilities and crowd capacity."

"We will set up a cricket academy in Sylhet to make stronger pipeline of the cricketers for national cricket team, the BCB supreme further said.

Former Sylhet Divisional Stadium, now known as Sylhet International Cricket Stadium with spectator capacity of 18,000, has not come to limelight during the last few years although the stadium has already hosted some qualifying round matches of the T20 World Cup Cricket in 2014.

The Sylhet phase of the BPL will continue here till November 8 before move to Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the students of the Sylhet International University formed a human chain in front of the varsity campus on Saturday afternoon protesting the ticket scalping by the black marketers.

Addressing the human chain, the student said they are not at all happy with the arrangement of sales of ticket as the local cricket fans were staying in the long queue for ticket from the night, but they did not get tickets for scalping by the black marketers.

Earlier on Wednesday noon, the first day of the ticket selling, some agitated cricket fans pelted whatever they had instantly to the ticket counters at the Sylhet District Stadium on as they did not get tickets for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 Cricket.

Some local-witness allegedly said that the ticket seekers stayed in the long queue from Tuesday night.

On Wednesday morning, the designated counters were opened and sold some tickets before the responsible personnel announced that all the tickets (Tk 200 and 500) for November 5 matches have been sold out.

Hearing that, ticket-deprived fans became agitated and pelted stones, footwear and other things while sellers were trying to close the counters.

Police reached to the spot to pacify the ticket seekers, but faced the same agitations until the law enforces countered with baton charge.
