BD U-19 suffers tragic 2-run defeat in Asia Cup semis
Millions of heart were broken as Bangladesh Under -19 suffered a tragic 2-run defeat against Pakistan in the first semifinals of the ACC Asia Cup Cricket as dreaded Duckworth Lewis method decided the fate of the match held on Thursday at Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur.
Asked to bat first by Pakistan, Bangladesh scored a very competitive total of 274 for 6 from their allotted 50 overs courtesy of three half centuries by opener Pinak Ghosh, Saif Hasan and Afif Hossain, reports the BSS.
In reply Pakistan lost top five batsmen and were 199 when rain stopped play in 39 overs were and by virtue of DL method, Pakistan were declared winners by 2 run. If the match would have continued it would have been a tall order for the remaining Pakistani tail end batsmen to haul 76 in last 11 overs.
The promising left handed opening batsman Pinak scored 82 runs off 93 balls with the help of eight boundaries and one over boundary and first shared 51-run opening stand with Nasir Sheikh (14) and during the process he again paired another 155-run second wicket stand with skipper Saif Hasan (61) to take Bangladesh to a comfortable position.
Saif hit nine boundaries and one over boundary during his 78-ball stay on the crease.
Later, Afif Hossain with a breezy 52 not out and Nayeem Islam with blazing unbeaten 22 added speedy 50-run for seventh wicket stand which helped Bangladesh to set up a challenging target in front of Pakistan.
Afif struck five boundaries during his 55-ball stay on the crease while Nayeem hit two sixes from 15 balls.
Minir Riaz was the pick of Pakistan bowler as he grabbed three wickets conceding 53 runs.
In reply, Pakistan slipped, losing their three top orders with in 51 runs of the scoreboard, but a responsible and match 92-run knock from the bat of Mohammad Taha steered Pakistan out of troubled water and Pakistan were 199 for 5 in 39 overs. Dl method came into play and Pakistan move into final winning by only two runs.
The 17-year right handed Taha slammed eight boundaries and three over boundaries for his 97-ball knock before he perished to Qazi Onik.
Saad Khan (35 n.o), Rohail Nazir (26) and Mohammad Mohsin Khan (22) were the other notable scorers for Pakistan who kept helping Taha to maintain the run rate needed to beat Bangladesh.
Qazi Onik was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh as he claimed two wickets for 35 runs.
