Tamim, Liton fined over umpire row

Dhaka: Comilla Victorians captain Tamim Iqbal and wicket-keeper Liton Kumer Das have been fined 50 percent of their match fees for breaching level-2 of BCB Code of Conduct during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match against Rangpur Riders at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Both the players were found to have breached Article 2.2.5 of the BCB Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel, which relates to showing serious dissent at an umpire's decision.

Tamim and Liton were charged by on-field umpires Ranmore Martinesz and Mahfuzur Rahman, third umpire Morshed Ali Khan and fourth umpire Mozahiduzzaman for their animated show of disapproval at an umpiring decision in the Rangpur Riders innings after batsman Ravi Bopara had been adjudged not out to a caught behind appeal.

The players admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Salim Shahed and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

In addition to the fine imposed for the breach of Article 2.2.5, three demerit points have been added to Tamim and Liton's disciplinary record. Pursuant to Article 7.5 of the Code, if a player reaches four or more demerit points in the tournament, the points will then be converted into suspension points. Four demerit points equate to a ban of one match.

Level 2 breaches carry a minimum penalty of a fine of 30 percent of the match fees and a maximum penalty of a suspension of one match and three or four demerit points.
