Rangpur Riders beat Sylhet Sixers by 7 runs

Rangpur Riders beat Sylhet Sixers by seven runs in their 5th match of the Bangladesh Premiere League (BPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

With the day’s feat, Rangpur Riders advanced to the 5th slot in the seven team fray securing four points from five matches while Sylhet Sixer remained at the 4th slot with seven points from eight matches, reports the UNB.

Sent in to bat first, Rangpur Riders scored 169 for 7 in quota 20 overs featuring 80 runs in 8.4 overs in the opening stand by batting sensations Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle.

West Indian celebrated batsman Chris Gayle made a half century contributing 50 runs off 39 balls hitting two fours and five sixes while Kiwis opening batsman Brendon McCullum contributed 21-ball 33 runs with three fours and three sixes.

Besides, English batsman Ravi Bopara (28), Mohammad Mithun (25) and Sri Lankan Thisara Perera (15) were the other notable batsmen reaching the double figures.

Abul Hasan grabbed two wickets for 24 runs while Nasir Hossain, Tim Bresnan and Liam Plunkett took one wicket each.

In reply, Sylhet Sixers were finished on 162 for 4 in 20 overs despite scoring 117 runs in the 4th wicket stand by captain Nasir Hossain and Sabbir Rahman.

Sabbir Rahman contributed 49 ball 70 runs with seven fours and two sixes while Nasir Hossain made not out 50 off 43 balls with one four and a six.  

Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Sohag Gazi, Rubel Hossain and Thisara Perera took one wicket each.
