‘Mashrafe’ launched
Dhaka: The first ever biography on Bangladesh national cricket team skipper Mashrafe Mortaza named ‘Mashrafe’, written by Debabrata Mukhopadhyay, was launched in Khulna on Monday.
The book was written on Mashrafe’s injury-stricken career and his fightback to make it into the national team. The captain was present at the book launching event as the chief guest and other team members were present.
The Narail Express said he will consider him successful if the new generation learn something from his struggle-bound and challenging cricket career.
Mashrafe said, ‘I’m not a superstar as such. But many renowned superstars in the world didn’t face the difficult times I have confronted in my career.’
The national cricket skipper added, ‘I can make sure that I don’t want to incorporate any controversial statement in my book what I would want to write. If I publish an autobiography, I won’t publish it to earn money. Rather I’ll publish the book so that the newcomers in cricket can get inspiration from the book and think there is no ‘the end in one’s life.’
Mashrafe was born on 5 October 1983 in Narail. He broke into the national side in late 2001 against Zimbabwe and represented Bangladesh before having played a single first-class match. Mashrafe captained Bangladesh in one Test and seven One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 2009 and 2010, however injury meant he was in and out of the side and Shakib Al Hasan was appointed captain in Mashrafe's absence.
Mashrafe is considered one of the fastest bowlers produced by Bangladesh, usually bowling in the mid-135s km/h, and regularly opens the bowling. He is a useful lower-middle order batsman, with a first-class century and three Test half centuries to his name. Mashrafe's career has been hampered by injuries and he has undergone a total of ten operations on his knees and ankles.
He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2009 Indian Premier League. In 2012 he joined the Dhaka Gladiators and 2015 from Comilla Victorians in the newly formed Bangladesh Premier League twenty20 competition and captained them to the tournament title and led Comilla Victorians clinched the title of the third 3rd Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
