Nepal clinch Bangabandhu Gold Cup title beating Bahrain

Dhaka: Nepal clinched the fourth edition title of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament beating Bahrain by 3-0 goals in the final at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Country’s sports-loving Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the champion’s trophy in the closing function as the chief guest, reports UNB.
Forward Bimal Gharti Magar, midfielder Bishal Rai and forward Nawayug Shrestha scored one goal each for the champions in the 5th, 87th and 90th minutes.
Bimal put Nepal ahead tapping the ball into the net from unmarked position off a rebound of Bahrain goalie Mahboob Aldoseri.
Captain Biraj Maharjan cut a neat cross to midfielder Anjan Bista from the left edge of the box, Anjan headed towards the goal post and goalie fisted the ball which was tapped home by Bimal (1-0).
Bishal Rai doubled the lead flicking the ball into the middle of the net from the six-yard box off a cut back of midfielder Anjan Bista (2-0).
Nawayug Shrestha headed home the ball from top of the six-yard box off a cross of Bimal Gharti Magar (3-0).
Both Nepal and Bahrain team were reduced to 10-men in the 82nd minute as the referee showed direct red card to Nepal forward Sumon Lama and Bahrain midfielder Ahmed Althuani to send off.
Finally, Bahrain became the 9-man team in the stopgap time as their captain Abdulaziz Alsheikh got marching order having double yellow cards.
Bahrain came close to equalizer in the 24 minute. Midfielder Mohammed Alinar’s lobbed placed toward the left post, but no one could connect the ball in time and of goalie Bikas Kuthu saved his side.
In the 25th minute, Nepal had another chance to score. Nawayug Shrestha took a right footer shot and goalie Mahboob Aldoseri fisted the ball over the crosspiece off a Biaml’s superb footwork.
Bahrain captain Abdulaziz Alshaikh aired a left footer in the 55th minute, goalie Bikas Kuthu saved the ball by a dive for a corner.
Nepal confirmed their final berth eliminating the Maldives by 4-1 goals while Bahrain outplayed the hosts Bangladesh by a solitary goal.
Bimal Gharti Magar was adjudged man of the final while Nawayug Shrestha was adjudged player of the tournament.
