It was under his leadership that Bangladesh enjoyed their most successful period in ODIs till date in 2015. The year started off with an access to the Quarter-Finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup, which was the first time ever for Bangladesh. En route to the Knockout stage, Bangladesh defeated a major cricketing force-England, and knocked them out of the World Cup, and it was Mashrafe Bin Mortaza who captained the side to this glory.

The World Cup success followed at home, where Bangladesh started their venture with a clean-sweep against Pakistan, then went on to win the ODI Series 2-1 against a full-strength India followed by another 2-1 victory against South Africa and lastly ended with a second clean-sweep for the year in ODIs against Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh moved up to the seventh position in ICC ODI Rankings in 2015 and confirmed a spot in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 to be played in England. The Tigers tasted thumping victories against one of the Quarter Finalists and two Semi-Finalists of ICC CWC 2015 and it was all under the energetic and aggressive leadership of Mashrafe. The team performed as a 'Team' and the Captain has to be credited duly for taking his team to this position.

Following these achievements, Wisden India honored the Bangladesh ODI & T20I skipper Mashrafe Mortaza as one of the six Cricketers of the Year for their terrific performances in 2014-15.

The other five cricketers are Ravichandran Ashwin, Vinay Kumar, Dhammika Prasad, Younis Khan and Joe Root. Vijay Merchat and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar have been featured in the Hall of Fame section. This is the fourth edition of the Wisden India Alamnack, released by veteran cricketer Anil Kumble and Indian footballing legend Baichung Bhutia.
