Loss to Sri Lanka a wakeup call before final: Mashrafe
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Moratza on Thursday termed their humiliating 10-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka as a good wakeup call for the team before the final of the tri-nation series on Saturday.
‘What happened is a good wakeup call before the final. We’ll need to believe that how bogus we are on our bad day,’ he told a post-match press conference, reports the UNB.
‘There’s no guarantee that we won’t lose two wickets early in the final. Tamim [Tamim Iqbal], Shakib [Shakib Al Hasan] can be out in two successive balls. We have learnt it too,’ Mashrafe continued.
He, however, said Bangladesh has the capacity to build up a healthy score after the loss of four wickets. ‘Although, we couldn’t do that on the day, we realised that how far we could carry the day’s score,’ he added.
The Bangladesh skipper also said there is no chance to be overconfident against Sri Lanka. ‘You can say we’ve played bad cricket. I think it will be right to say that we had a bad day today (Thursday).’
He said they did not expect the defeat to Sri Lanka in this manner. ‘It’s hard to comment on this match after our last three performances,’ Mashrafe concluded.
In the 6th match of the series on Thursday, the Lankans chased down a silly target of 83 runs with their unbeaten opening stand between Danushka Gunathilaka (35 off 35b; 3x4; 2x6) and Upul Tharanga (39 off 37b; 1x4; 3x6) who shared an innings of 11.5 overs.
The Tigers were all out with their 9th lowest ODI aggregate of 82 in 24 overs where Mushfiqur Rahim (26 off 56b; 1x4) and Sabbir Rahman (10 off 12b; 2x4) were the double digit scorers.
Both sides will play the final taking on each other at the same venue, starting at 12 pm on Saturday.
The Tigers confirmed their final berth earlier collecting 15 points with three successive wins before the day’s loss, while Sri Lanka collected nine points from four outings having two wins with the day’s victory.
Another participating team Zimbabwe made their exit from the series being placed bottom 3 with four points from four outings having only a win against Sri Lanka by 12 runs.
