Chris Gayle's reign as one of the favourites of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to a rather inglorious end on Sunday as no one, including his parent franchise of Royal Challengers Bangalore, moved a muscle when the big Jamaican's name came up in the first lot of marquee players in the IPL 2018 Auction being held in Bengaluru.

The 38-year-old Gayle has been a waning force in the recent past, however him finding no takers did come as a big surprise.

Gayle had hammered a massive 168 not out off just 69 balls recently in the Bangladesh Premier League, but that really did not cut much ice at the IPL Auction, reports NDTV.

Gayle made his IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders against Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla in May 2008 in a match that was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Delhi was also the side that he faced for RCB in the 2017 edition, also at the Kotla, possibly quite the dramatic and poetic ending to what possibly will a rather moderate and inglorious end to Gayle's superstar status as an IPL cricketer.
