Zimbabwe make dazzling start to campaign
Chittagong: Zimbabwe started their ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup campaign with an emphatic seven-wicket victory over inexperienced side Fiji in the Group-C match at MA Aziz Stadium on Friday.
Zimbabwe chased an easy target of 82 and comfortably completed the winning mission scoring 84 for 3 in 18.5 overs stimulated by the 3rd of 46 runs in 8.3 overs between Breadan Sly and Jeremy Ives.
The 3rd pair ended up at 73/3 in 13.3 overs as J Ives was bowled out by T Veitacini.
B Sly played a beautiful straight drive in the last ball for a boundary to draw the winning line off a Josaia Baleicikoibia delivery.
B Sly scored unbeaten 29 off 44 balls including four boundaries while J Ives was out for 23 off 26 balls also featured four boundaries.
J Baleicikoibia took two wickets for 19 runs in 4.5 overs while T Veitacini took another wicket for 14 runs in two overs.
Opening bat, after winning the toss, Fiji played 27.4 overs to collect a meager figure of 81 runs for all with number-8 batsman Cakacaka Tikoisuva’s top scoring 19 off 39 balls involving three boundaries.
Fiji started a bit good tone as their opening pair between Jordan Dunham and T Veitacini contributed a 32 runs in 8.5 overs, but was unfortunate closing the innings too early.
Opener J Dunham was out for 15 off 31 balls including one boundary while T Veitacini added 14 off 31 balls with two boundaries.
Off break spinner Wesley Madhevere stormed for his five-for conceding an economic 24-run in 9.4 overs. Blessing Mavuta captured three wickets for 13 runs in four overs.
Rugare Magarira and Kundai Matigimu took one wicket each for four-runs and 19 runs in three-over and five-over.
With this result, Fiji conceded the 2nd successive defeat in the tournament as they started their campaign with a huge 299-run loss against England at MA Aziz Stadium on Friday.
