Mominul, Mushfiqur grab spotlight on Day-1

Chittagong: Unbeaten century from Mominul Haque and half-centuries from Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal guided Bangladesh to a solid opening day against Sri Lanka on the opening day of first Rocket Test. Bangladesh ended the day on 374 for 4.

Earlier Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first. Mahmudullah becomes the 10th Test captain for Bangladesh. Sunzamul Islam made his debut.

Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes gave a good start to Bangladesh with a partnership of 72. Sandakan trapped Imrul lbw on 40 before the last ball of lunch. Tamim was bowled out on 52 by Dilruwan Perera. Then Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim made the highest partnership of 236 runs in the 3rd wicket for Bangladesh.

Suranga Lakmal broke the partnership by dismissing Mushfiqur on 92. Liton Kumar Das got out without scoring in the next ball. Mominul and Mahmudullah passed the rest of the day without further trouble.

Mominul was remained not out on 175 and Mahmudullah was on 9. Lakmal took 2 wickets for 43 for Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh 1st innings - 374 for 4 in 90 overs, Mominul 175 batting, Mushfiqur 92, Tamim 52, Imrul 40, Mahmudullah 9 batting, Lakmal 2/43, Sandakan 1/58 and Perera 1.98.
