Dhaka: Bangladesh started batting for the second day after Mominul Haque hitting an unbeaten century of 175* on day one against visiting Sri Lanka in the 1st match of a two-Test series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Wednesday.

But Mominul went back to the pavilion adding only a single early in the morning on day 2. Rangana Herath picked up the wicket of Mominul. After Mominul Mosaddek Hossain also went back to the dressing room making a suicidal cricket.

Mominul reached the milestone from 47 innings, playing so far 26 matches, while Tamim had to play 53 innings to reach the milestone.

With the day’s unbeaten score, Mominul aggregated 2015 at an average of 47.97, which included five centuries and 12 half centuries, and holding the 6th most Test run getter of Bangladesh.

Mominul crossed the milestone with an over boundary off Rangana Herath in the inning’s 80.5 overs when he was on 163 off 182 balls and the team’s collection was on 341/2.

Bangladesh’s 1st day’s collection of 374/4 in 90 overs, at stumps, spurred with the Tigers’ 3rd wicket highest partnership innings of 236 off 56.1 overs between Mominul and Mushfiqur Rahim (92 off 192b) as both shared nearly two sessions on the 1st day.

The day’s hero Mominul stayed 25 runs away for his maiden double century, completing his 5th Test ton in the second session, and remained at the crease with 175* off 203 balls, including 16 boundaries and one six, while skipper Mahmudullah Riyad (9* off 20b; 2x4) was pairing him in the 5th wicket.

Mominul made his Test debut in March 2013 against Sri Lanka at Galle where he hammered a half century of 55 runs and the erstwhile Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim hit a double century of 200 runs in the 1st innings of a draw game.

The previous 3rd wicket highest partnership innings of 157 off 57 overs against New Zealand was recorded by Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka in October 2013.

The Tigers’ highest Test partnership innings 359 off 82.2 overs came in the 5th stand against New Zealand, which is recorded by Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim at Basin Reserve, Wellington in January 2017.
