Shakib to play knockout match against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh will be boosted by the return of Shakib al Hasan as the Bangladesh Test and Twenty20 International captain will join the squad for the ongoing T20I series in Sri Lanka, it was confirmed on Thursday (March 15).

The allrounder has recovered from the finger injury he picked up in the tri-series at home earlier this year, reports cricbuzz.com.

Shakib had hurt his finger during the January 27 tri-series final against Sri Lanka, after which he missed the Tests and ODIs against them at home. He also missed the Pakistan Super League, as well as the first three games in the Nidahas Trophy, reports the ESPNCricinfo.

During this time, he saw specialists in Thailand and Australia, before taking up gym and training sessions in Dhaka earlier this week.

Shakib is expected to play in Bangladesh’s crucial clash against Sri Lanka on March 16. Both teams have registered just one win from three games and the winner of the clash on Friday will take on India in the final.

Sri Lanka won the first contest against India but then went on to lose to Bangladesh and India in their next two matches. Bangladesh started with a defeat against India but bounced back to record the fourth-highest run chase against Sri Lanka and seal a win. They, however, slipped to another loss against India and now find themselves in a tricky position.

The final of the tournament will be played on March 18 in Colombo.
