Zimbabwe beat Canada by 6 wickets
Dhaka: Zimbabwe earned a facile six-wicket victory over Canada in the 9th place play-off quarterfinal of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup match at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy ground in Cox’s Bazar on Friday.
Favoured by coin, Canada opened the innings first and scored 186 for 8 in stipulated 50 overs, featuring 56 runs in the 4th wicket stand by Amish Taploo and Abraash Khan.
Eighteen-year-old two down batsman Amish Taploo contributed his career best 37 runs off 71 balls featuring three boundaries while number five Abraash Khan made 63-ball 32 runs with two fours and Anslan Khan scored 39-ball 31 including three fours.
The previous best score of Amish Taploo was 28 runs made against Pakistan in the ongoing Under-19 World Club in Sylhet on 30 January.
J Ives took three wickets for 30 runs.
In reply, Zimbabwe reached their target scoring 190 for the loss of four wickets in 31.4 overs with opener S Snydar scoring 56 off 42 balls hitting six fours and four sixes.
Two down batsman J Ives, who earlier grabbed three wickets, scored the team’s 2nd highest not out 43 runs off 55 balls featuring five fours and was adjudged the man of the match.
In the day’s another 9th place deciding play-off quarterfinal, Afghanistan, riding on Karim Janat’s 156 runs, crushed Fiji by massive 226 runs at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.
Afghanistan batted first and piled up a huge total of 340 runs for 9 in stipulated 50 overs and later they bundled out Fiji for 114 runs in 31.2 overs.
