Dhaka: Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan admitted that they have failed to do well in all three departments that is why they lost the final T20 against Afghanistan.

After the match, the Tigers skipper said they need to bat, bowl and field better to win the match but they failed to do so.

Shakib, the Bangladesh captain and most experienced T20 player, had a quiet tournament, scoring 28 runs and picking up two wickets, one of the reasons Bangladesh fell well short, reports icc-cricket.com.

‘We played better today than last two games. Overall, we have to come up with better plans. I thought we restricted them to reasonable total,’ he said.

‘We were so close, but the middle overs cost us. I thought Mushfiq and Mahmudullah gave us a chance but they could not finish it. These conditions suited Afghanistan and they had quality spinners.’

‘Overall our performance in the series was not up to the mark. We were found wanting in all the three aspects of the game. In all the three games we did not bat to our potential. We also could have bowled better in the first two matches. The body language and fielding need improvement as it was missing on occasions.’

Chasing a target of 146 set by Afghanistan, Bangladesh needed nine runs in the final over with two set batsman at the crease.

However, both Mushfiqur Rahim (46) and Mahmudullah (45) lost their wickets as Bangladesh went on to lose by one run.

It is mentionable, the Tigers suffered a heartbreaking defeat to India at the World T20 in 2016 and then again this year with the same opponents in the final of the T20 tri-series in Sri Lanka when Dinesh Karthik smashed a six off the final ball, reports the BSS.

Shakib said after Thursday’s loss, he said the batsmen or bowlers can describe it better as he has never batted or bowled in those situations.

The loss at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Dehradun saw Bangladesh being whitewashed three-nil by a team that has yet to even play Test cricket.
