Dhaka: Bangladesh beat Bhutan by 2-0 margin in their first game of the SAFF Championship on Tuesday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Topu Barman and Mahbubur Rahman made one goal each to help Bangladesh beat Bhutan.
The hosts went ahead in the third minute of the game when Bhutan midfielder Tshering Dirji conceded a penalty and Topu sent goalkeeper Tshering Dendup the wrong way.
Both the sides spurned opportunities later in the first half, but Mahbubur did not when play resumed after the break, hitting the net with a beautiful volley in 47th minute.
In the first match of Group A, Pakistan shocked Nepal 2-1 thanks to a Muhammad Ali strike in the dying minutes.

A Hassan Bashir penalty had put the winners ahead in the 36th minute and when Bimal Gharti Magar scored an equaliser eight minutes from time, the match looked destined for a draw till Ali hit the winner.

Bangladesh will play their next game against Pakistan at 7:00pm on Thursday while Nepal take on Bhutan earlier on the day.
