Asia Cup Cricket kicks off today

Dhaka: The Micromax Asia Cup Cricket kicked off at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium (KSOAS) in Fatullah on Friday through newly introduced qualifying round matches with the participation of four associate member countries of Asia— Afghanistan, the UAE, Hong Kong and Oman.  

Afghanistan will face the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the opening match at 3:00pm local time while Hong Kong will meet Oman in the other opening day’s match at the same venue at 7:30pm under floodlight.  

Bangladesh is hosting the Asia Cup Cricket for the 5th time and the third time in a row.

The four associate members of ICC will fight for a single seat in the main round of the tournament along with the four Test playing nations of Asia— hosts Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and defending champions Sri Lanka.  

The winner of the qualifying round will play in the final round that begins on 24 February.  

Hosts Bangladesh will play India in the opening match of the final round on 24 February at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.  

The final of the five-team South Asian T20I format tournament will be held at SNBNCS on 6 March.  

Fixture of the remaining qualifying round matches:  

20 Feb: Afghanistan vs Oman: 3pm (KSOAS).  

21 Feb: Hong Kong vs UAE: 3pm (KSOAS).  

22 Feb: Afghanistan vs Hong Kong: 3pm (SBNCS).  

22 Feb: Oman vs UAE: 7:30 pm (SBNCS).
