Afghans resurgent against Oman
Dhaka: Afghanistan tuned their Asia Cup campaign around with a 3-wicket victory over Oman in their second qualifying round match at Fatullah Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium on Saturday.
Afghanistan started their qualifying round campaign with a 16-run loss against United Arab Emirates in the T20 format 13th Asia Cup at the same venue on Friday.
In the day’s match, replying to 165/4, Afghanistan scored 168/7 in 19.3 overs with Noor Ali Zadran topscoring 63 off 44 balls involving eight boundaries.
On the way to unbeaten 12 runs, Dawlat Zadran fired two successive sixes to draw the winning line in the last two deliveries off Ajay Lalcheta.
Besides his individual performance, Noor Ali stayed for two fifty plus partnership in the 5th and 2nd wicket, before being trapped lbw by Bilal Khan leaving team total at 6-141/6 in 16.5 overs.
Noor Ali paired with Najibullah Zadran for 59 runs in 7 overs in the 5th and stayed with skipper Asghar Stanikzai for 54 runs in 4.4 overs in the 2nd.
Asghar hit 34 off 17 balls including five boundaries and one six and was caught by Bilal Khan off Mehran Khan bowling at 59/2 in 5.3 overs.
Najibullah was out for 23 off 21 with a four while Samiullah Shenwari (12 off 9b; 2x4) and Mohammad Nabi (11 off 12b; 1x4) were the other double digit scorer for Afghanistan.
Delivering four overs each, Mehran Khan and Bilal Khan enjoyed three wickets apiece for 18 and 33 runs. Lalcheta took another one for 43 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, Oman scored a moderate 165/4 in 20 overs with two half centuries by Adnan Ilyas and opener Zeeshan Maqsood and.
Ilyas topscored firing 54 off 27 balls with three boundaries and four sixes while Zeeshan added 52 off 42 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Jatinder Singh score 23 off 28 balls with one boundary while Aamir Kaleem(13 off 17b;) and Mehran Khan (not out 12 off 8b; 1x4) were the other double figure scorers for Oman.
Gulbadin Naib captured two wickets for 24 runs in four overs while Dawlat Zadran Amir Hamza took one wicket each for 27 and 29 runs.
