Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus has emphasised social transformation through the enormous power of sports by using the social business initiatives.

FCB Foundation which hosts and finances the world famous FC Barçelona team is a partner of the Barcelona Social Business City programme, part of the network of cities which joined the social business movement with Yunus Centre in Dhaka, reports the UNB.

Barça, the club’s nickname, are already part of his social business movement through the Social Business City of Barcelona, said the Yunus Centre on Thursday. 

Nine universities of Barcelona have already established Yunus Social Business Centres on their campuses.

Prof Yunus has also established the Yunus Sports Hub in Paris to lead sporting initiatives from around the world on the social business path.

From Spain he is going to Lille, France to launch social business sports march from Lille to Paris.

During his visit to Barcelona, Yunus addressed a global conference at Smart Cities World Expo and the Minister of Social Economy of Catalonia government.

He will meet the head of the Catalonia government on November 17.

In the meantime, he will address conferences of businesses and universities at Valencia and Madrid.

Earlier on November 14, Prof Yunus was received at Sport City Joan Gamper by Barça Vice President Jordi Mestre for an exclusive exchange of greetings with Barça players.

Prof Yunus met the players including Lionel Messi, Gerard Piqué, Éric Abidal, Samuel Umtiti and others, and their coaches Ernesto Valverde and Jon Aspiazu.

He was invited to watch the training session of the entire team in an exclusive visit to the club.

Each player took pictures with Prof Yunus and received a signed copy of the Spanish edition of his book, A World of Three Zeros from him.
