Asia Cup: Sri Lanka beat UAE

Dhaka: Sri Lanka beat ICC associate nation the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 18 runs in the 2nd T20I of the 13th Asia Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.

Earlier, UAE restricted defending champions Sri Lanka at 129/8.

Sent in to bat first, Sri Lanka played stipulated 20-over to post the moderate target riding on opener Dinesh Chandimal’s half century.  

Chandimal hit 50 off 39 balls including seven boundaries and one six and was caught by Mohammad Shahzad off an Amjad Javed delivery leaving team total at 89/3 in 13.2 overs.  

The Lankans made good start with opening stand of 68 runs in 9.1 overs between Chandimal and Tillakaratne Dilshan, but later on they lost wickets in regular interval.  

Dilshan was the 2nd top scorer for Sri Lanka with 27 runs off 28 balls including four boundaries, before being caught by Muhammad Usman off Amjad Javed bowling.  

Shehan Jayasuriya and Chamara Kapugedera added 10 runs each to be other double figure scorers for the side.  

Amjad Javed who made the first breakthrough in the Lankan batting castle enjoyed three wickets for 25 runs in four overs.  

Mohammad Shahzad and Mohammad Naveed bagged two wickets apiece - conceding 27 runs each -- in three and four overs.
