Pakistan seal comprehensive win over UAE
Dhaka: Pakistan overcame an early wobble to defeat UAE by seven wickets and register their first win of the Asia Cup T20 on Monday.
Shoaib Malik (63) and Umar Akmal (50) were the heroes in Pakistan recovery after Shahid Afridi's side lost their top three batsmen inside four over with just 17 runs on the board, courtesy a tight bowling spell by UAE captain Amjad Javed.
Earlier, Shaiman Anwar’s 46 helped the United Arab Emirates (UAE) score 129/6 against Pakistan in the 6th match of the 13th Asia Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
Batting first after winning the toss, the ICC associate nation posted the score in 20 overs, riding on the 6th wicket contribution of 46 in 5.2 overs between skipper Amjad Javed and Muhammad Usman.
The 6th pair carried the team total to 118/6 in 19 overs from 72/5 in 13.4 overs before Muhammad Usman was bowled out by Mohammad Amir.
Anwar’s 46 came off 42 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes, before being caught by Sarfraz Ahmed off a Mohammad Irfan delivery at 72/5 13.4 overs.
Javed hit unbeaten 27 off 18 balls featuring three boundaries and two sixes while Usman stayed for 21off 17 balls involving two boundaries and one six.
Number eight batsman Mohammad Naveed fired one boundary and one six for his unbeaten 10 in the end.
The UAE reached the 100-run mark with a boundary scored by Javed in the 15.4 overs off Mohammad Sami bowling.
The UAE faced an early jolt losing their three top order batsmen -- Rohan Mustafa, Muhammad Kaleem and Mohammad Shahzad -- for 12 runs in 4 overs.
Usman Mushtaq also failed to stay long as he was caught by debutant Mohammad Nawaz off skipper Shahid Afridi at 41/4 in 11 overs.
Mohammad Sami made the first breakthrough for Pakistan dismissing opener Rohan Mustafa who was caught by Shahid Afridi at 1/1 in 2 overs.
Delivering four overs each, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Irfan grabbed two wickets apiece for 6 and 30 runs respectively.
Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Sami took one wicket each for 24 and 28 runs.
