Dhaka: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan on Friday said they will ask for a higher level of security for the team in future tours.

Forty-nine people were killed in a terrorist attack on two mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch on Friday. Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mashud said the Tigers’ bus was about 50 yards away from one of the mosques that was attacked, the UNB reported.

Hasan said the terror attack on New Zealand soil is unimaginable.

‘Our cricketers and staffs are safe in the hotel. We are taking necessary steps to bring them back as soon as possible,’ he told the media in Dhaka.

The BCB president said he spoke with Mashud as soon as he learned about the incident. ‘I also spoke to Tamim (Iqbal), Mushfiqur (Rahim) and Mahmudullah. All of them are safe,’ he said. ‘We’ve called off the third and final Test of the series considering the situation.’

He said the cricket board will take security issue differently after the incident.

‘From now, we’ll ask for a standard level of security before tours. It won’t be possible for us to go on tours if we’re not provided the level of security we’ll ask for,’ he said.

The cricket board chief said they might consider sending security specialist with the team as well. ‘In future, we’ll consider … sending security specialists with the team. It was not required in the past. Actually, we didn’t feel the necessity. But from now, things will be different,’ he told the media.

According to reports from New Zealand, no security personnel were with the Bangladesh team at the moment of the incident.

‘Things won’t be the same. The kind of securities we provide was not available for us in New Zealand. It is not just about New Zealand, wherever we go, we get the same kind of security,’ Hasan told reporters.
