Yasir Ali: The latest inclusion in Bangladesh World Cup set-up
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce a 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup on April 18.
But the player who has drawn attention already is Yasir Ali. The 23-year-old batsman, who never played for the national side, obtained a place in the preliminary squad of Bangladesh for the World Cup, reports the UNB.
Yasir came to limelight for the first time during the last season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) where he struck 307 runs in 11 matches at the strike rate of 124.29. His strike rate was the most exciting side of him to be considered for the national side.
The Chattogram-born batsman maintained his golden run in the ongoing season of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League as well. In the first eight rounds of the league, Yasir scored 341 runs with one century and two fifties. He scored at the astonishing average of 170.50 since he was unbeaten in his only ton in the league so far. The young boy also maintained his surprising strike rate of 101.48.
In the last BPL, Yasir got the chance in the playing XI of Chittagong Vikings in the place of Mohammad Ashraful. The former national team was poor in the middle, and that paved the way for Yasir. The right-handed middle-order batsman utilized the chance with great care.
He drew attention for his convincing show in BPL . Minhazul Abedin, the chief selector of BCB, has expressed his satisfaction over the performance of Yasir on several occasions.
Most importantly, national team captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza showed his eagerness to include Yasir in the World Cup squad recently which has played a big role to consider him for the National side.
Though the squad will not be announced before April 18, according to the close sources to the chief selector, it is confirmed that Yasir is one of the World Cup campaigners of the Tigers.
