Tigers to begin T20 World Cup mission Wednesday
Dhaka: Bangladesh will begin their ICC T20 World Cup campaign on Wednesday taking on the Netherlands in their Group-A match at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala, India.
The 3rd match of the qualifying round will begin at 8:00pm Bangladesh time.
The Tigers left here for India on Monday morning to play the 6th edition of the tournament after completing the 13th Asia Cup mission, that concluded at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here on Sunday, as runners-up.
In the remaining two qualifying round matches at the same venue, Bangladesh will play against Ireland and Oman on 11 and 13 March.
Two Test-playing and six associate nations, split in two groups, will compete in the qualifying round to join the super-10 stage. Two group champion teams will join in the super-10 stage.
The other four teams -- Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Scotland and Zimbabwe -- who have to play in the qualifying round were placed in Group-B.
If Bangladesh emerge group champion, they will begin their super-10 stage playing Pakistan at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 16 March.
The eight top ranked teams -- hosts India, West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand, England, Australia, Pakistan and defending champions Sri Lanka -- will play the 10-team main round directly starting on 15 March.
Number one T20I team India will play against New Zealand in the tournament opener at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur in Maharashtra.
The tournament final will be held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 3 April.
Two Bangladesh satellite channels Gazi TV and Maasraga TV will telecast all the qualifying round matches and the super-10 stage matches live.
Bangladesh squad: Masrafe Bin Mortaza (Captain), Shakib Al Hasan (Vice Captain), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarker, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Al Amin Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Arafat Sunny, Abu Haider Rony and Nurul Hasan Sohan.
