Bangladesh women’s cricket team to leave for India Tuesday

Dhaka: Bangladesh women’s cricket team will leave for India on Tuesday morning to take part in the ICC Women’s World T20 starting on Wednesday, that will run side-by-side with the men’s event.  

Bangladesh will face India in the opener of the 5th edition of the women’s world cup at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore at 4:00pm Bangladesh time on March 15.  

Bangladesh have been pitted in Group-B and in their remaining group matches, they will face England, West Indies and Pakistan on March 17, 20 and 24.  

Group-A comprises defending champion Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka.  

Top two teams form each group will qualify for the semifinal.  

Prior to leaving for the world event, Jahanara Alam-led Bangladesh team had a two-month long training session under Sri Lankan coach Champika Gamage.  

Bangladesh Women’s T20 Squad: Salma Khatun, Jahanara Alam (captain), Ritu Moni, Ayasha Rahman, Sharmin Akter Supta, Nigar Sultana, Fargana Haque, Khadija Tul Kubra, Rumana Ahmed, Shaila Sharmin, Lata Mondal, Nahida Akter, Panna Ghosh, Sanjida Islam and Fahima Khatun.  

Five stand by players: Rubaya Haider, Shamima Sultana, Suraiya Azmim Sonda, Nuzhat Tasnia Tumpa and Tazia Akthar.
