Tamim takes Bangladesh to 153 against Netherlands
Dhaka: Tamim Iqbal’s unbeaten half century sailed Bangladesh to score 153 for 7 wickets against the ICC associate nation Netherlands in the qualifying Group-A match of the World Twenty20 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, India on Wednesday.
Sent in to bat first, Bangladesh played stipulated 20 overs to post the fighting total, spurred by the opener Tamim unbeaten 83 off 58 balls, including six boundaries and three sixes.
Bangladesh touched the 100-run mark in 13.1 overs with Tamim’s boundary off a Logan van Beek bowling. Tamim cleared his front foot to strike a lofted drive with much power for the boundary.
The Tigers’ lost their first wicket Soumya Sarkar at 18/1 in 3.1 overs.
Soumya who scored 15 off 13 balls, including two fours, was caught by Wesley Barresi off Paul van Meekeren.
Soumya got a lifeline in the very 5th delivery of the innings off Mudassar Bukhari. Soumya hit through the air, for boundary, to third man who spilled it through his hands.
Sabbir Rahman who stayed for run-a-ball 15 including one boundary and one six, was lbw by Roelof van der Merwe at 60/2 in 8.2 overs.
Dependable Mahmudullah Riyad (10 off 9; 1x4) also failed to mount big-one as he was bowled out off a Timm van der Gugten delivery at 111/4 in 14.3 overs.
Showing their off-form, the world famed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim were out for 5 runs and for a duck respectively.
Timm van der Gugten grabbed three wickets for 20 runs in four overs.
Paul van Meekeren took two wickets for 17 runs also in four overs while Peter Borren and Roelof van der Merwe took one wicket each for 9 and 28 runs.
