WC T20 Qualifiers: Oman upset Ireland by 2 wkts
Oman stunned Ireland in the 2nd Group-A qualifying round match of the ICC World Twenty20 by two wickets at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Wednesday.
Replaying to Ireland’s 154 runs, Oman reached the target scoring 157 for 8 in 19.4 overs with Zeeshan Maqsood topscoring 38 off 33 balls, including six boundaries, reports UNB.
Maqsood was bowled out by Kevin O’Brien at 78/2 in 10.4 overs.
Besides his individual performance, Maqsood stayed with Khawar Ali for 69 runs in 8.3 overs in the opening stand.
The opening pair departed as Khawar was bowled out by Kevin O’Brien scoring 34 off 26 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes.
Number seven batsman Aamer Ali who made his T20I debut for Oman in the match blasted 17-ball 32 runs, involving five boundaries and two sixes, to be adjudged man of the match. Jatinder Singh was another double figure scorer with 24 off 26 balls with one boundary.
Andy McBrine, Kevin O’Brien and Max Sorensen bagged two wickets each for 15, 25 and 29 runs respectively.
Batting first after winning the toss, Ireland scored 154 for 5 in 20 overs with Gray Wilson topscoring 38 off 34 balls, including six boundaries, before being bowled by Munis Ansari at 118/4 in 16 overs.
Ireland started the innings well as their opening pair between skipper William Porterfield and Paul Stirling carried the team total to 48 runs in 6.3 overs.
Paul Stirling was caught by Zeeshan Maqsood off an Aamir Kaleem delivery scoring 29 off 22 balls, including six boundaries.
William Porterfield also stayed for 29 runs off 28 balls involving three boundaries and one six.
Niall O’Brien (16 off 11b; 1x4), Kevin O’Brien (14 off 12b; 1x4), Andrew Poynter (not out 11off 10b; 1x6) and Andy McBrine (not out 10 off 3b; 2x4) were the other double figure scorers for Ireland.
Munis Ansari grabbed three wickets for 37 runs in four overs while Aamir Kaleem and Khawar Ali took one wicket each.
