Women cricketers portray a flying start

Dhaka: Bangladesh Women’s team made a good practice beating Irish Women’s by eight wickets with 45 balls remaining in their 2nd official warm-up match of the Women’s World Twenty20 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Saturday.

Bangladesh women’s started their World Twenty20 campaign taking on hosts India in a Group B match on 15 March in Bangalore.

Earlier in the first warm up match, Bangladesh women conceded a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka on Thursday in Bangalore.

Winning the toss in the day’s match , Ireland women batted first and were forced to fold their innings at 74 for 9 in 20 overs after losing first four wickets for 13 runs in 6.3 overs.

Among Irish batter, number seven L Delany (17), number five IMHC Joyce (16) and number six KJ Grath (11) were the notable contributors reaching the double figures.  

Rumana Ahmed made the major damage in Irish innings claiming four wickets for 12 while Jahanara Alam, Salma Khatun, Lata Mondal, Nahida Akhter and Khadiza-tul-Kurba took one wicket each.  

Chasing a target of 75 runs, Bangladesh easily reached their ultimate goal scoring 79 for 2 in just 12.3 overs with Shramin Akhter making not out 36 runs off 37 balls featuring five boundaries.

Besides, Jahanara Alam (not out 16), Ayesha Rahman (11) and Sanjida Islam (10) were other main contributors for Bangladesh.

LKO Reilly and CJ Metcalfel took one wicket each.
