Rain likely over Dharamsala
If the rain allows rolling the 12th qualifying encounter on the ground at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium tonight, only a win against Oman can decide that the Tigers will join super-10 stage of the World Twenty20.
The adamant nature on the day at Dharamsala also can favour the fortune of Bangladesh to qualify for the one spot in the super-10 stage, reports UNB.
The equation comes in the minds of cricket fraternity as the two qualifying matches at Dharamsala on 11 March were washed-out due to the start-off-start rain.
Besides, the weather forecast shows that there will be mostly cloudy with showers at Dharamsala on Sunday morning and the periods of rain can start at night according to ‘accuweather.com.’
So, the apprehension is that the persistent rain again can hamper the match at Dharamsala tonight and the first international encounter in any form of cricket between Bangladesh and Oman may washout due to rain, which means Oman will eliminate from the race.
Bangladesh will take on the ICC associate nation Oman in their crucial 3rd and last Group-A qualifying round match at 8:00pm Bangladesh time.
If Friday’s scenario is repeated on Sunday, it will not hamper the table topper Bangladesh to join the super-10 stage because of superior run rate.
The Bengal Tigers are still maintaining the top slot in the points table by virtue of their more net run rate followed by their opponent Oman.
Both, Bangladesh and Oman secured identical three points each from their last two matches with one win apiece.
Bangladesh started their tournament campaign beating the Netherlands by 8 runs and shared the match point with Ireland in the 2nd match.
On the other camp, Oman upset Ireland by 2 wickets to make winning start and shared match points with the Netherlands.
The two other Group-A teams — the Netherlands and Ireland — have already made their exit.
Bangladesh pace bowling coach Heath Streak said, ‘We won’t be taking Oman lightly. We don’t have much footage for them, but we’ll prepare as hard as we do for India and Pakistan,’
Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza echoed Heath Streak adding, ‘The match against Oman is a pressure match as it’ll decide who qualifies for the Super 10 stage. We are confident to give our best for win.’
Oman vice-captain cum left-arm spinner Aamir Kaleem said to ESPN, ‘It is a win-win situation for us. If we win, we go through to the next round, but unfortunately if we can’t do that we have still achieved a lot in this tournament.’
The participation of the Tigers injured cutter-master Mustafizur Rahman against Oman is still uncertain. In absence of Mustafiz, pacer Taskin Ahmed was contributing pretty good roll in the bowling unit, but was reported for suspect bowling action alongwith off-spinner Arafat Sunny.
However, both Taskin and Sunny were cleared for their qualifying round matches. Rgarding this issue, Mashrafe said, ‘It’s an official decision and we have to go through the process of the ICC.’
Bangladesh Television (BTV) and two satellite channels Gazi TV and Maasranga TV will telecast the match live.
