Tamim hits ton in T20I as 1st Bangladeshi
Dhaka: Hard-hitting opening batsman Tamim Iqbal hit the maiden century for Bangladesh in the T20I against Oman in the ICC World Twenty 20 Qualifiers in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Tamim emerged as the first batsman to make a dream hundred for Bangladesh scoring unconquered 103 runs off 63 balls, featuring 10 fours and five sixes.
He competed the hundred (101 runs off 60 balls 4X10, 6x5) hitting a boundary off a Bilal Khan delivery.
The previous best individual score of Bangladesh in the T20I was not out 88 runs, also made by Tamim against West Indies in December 2012 in Dhaka.
In the match, Tamim also reached the landmark of 1000 runs in his 49th T20I matches, hitting a boundary in the 2nd ball of the first over of Ajay Lalcheta.
Tamim Iqbal, who needed only 11 runs in the day match to enter the 1000-run club, is the highest run scorer for Bangladesh in the shortest format of cricket. He has now 1092 runs in his bag.
Tamim also emerged as the most consistence batsman in the ongoing World T20 scoring 45 plus score in three consecutive innings. He scored not out 83 runs against the Netherlands, made 47 runs in rain-marred 2nd match against Ireland and hit not out 103 runs against Oman on Sunday, all at Dharamsala.
