Central Zone emerge BCL champion

Dhaka: Central Zone emerged champion in the four-day-match Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) playing a draw against BCB North Zone in the 6th and final round at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.  

The Central Zone collected 64 points from six encounters including one win and five draws.

East Zone finished runners-up also playing draw with South Zone in the final round of the four-team first class cricket tournament at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

The East Zone bagged 53 points from as many matches with one win and five draws.  

The North Zone placed 3rd securing 49 points, including one win, two losses and three draws while the South Zone is in the bottom with 41 points featuring five draws and one loss.  

Central Zone vs North Zone

On the day-four play on Thursday, having 378 runs in the first innings, the North Zone resumed the 2nd innings with overnight score of 133 for 3 in 40.3 overs and declared the innings at 293 for 8 in 73 overs.  

Number five batsman Jahurul Islam hammered unbeaten 83 off 92 balls, including seven boundaries and one six, while overnight Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 55 off 105 balls involving eight boundaries.  

Tanveer Haider grabbed four wickets for 66 runs in the 2nd innings while Mohammad Sharif took two wickets for 64 runs for the Central Zone.  

In reply, the Central Zone opened the 2nd innings, having 306 runs in the first innings, and scored 257 runs for 2 in 54 overs when the bails were drawn for the final day.  

Marshall Ayub hit unbeaten century scoring 101 off 98 balls featuring 10 boundaries and one six.  

Besides, Marshall Ayub pairing with Raqibul Hasan contributed an unbeaten 131 runs in 20.3 overs in the 3rd wicket stand.  

Raqibul scored not out 54 runs while Shykat Ali added 57 runs. Opener Shamsur Rahman was out for 38 runs.  

Mahmudul Hasan and Farhad Hossain took one wicket each for the North Zone.  

North Zone skipper Farhad Hossain, who hit 131 runs for his side in the first innings, was adjudged man of the match.  

East Zone vs South Zone  

Replying to 442 runs of East Zone, South Zone resumed the first innings on the 4th day with overnight score of 420 for 6 in 122 overs and scored 601 for all in 155.5 overs.  

Overnight batsman Mosaddek Hossain fired a century scoring 152 runs off 231 balls featuring 14 boundaries and four sixes to be adjudged man of the match.  

Another overnight batsman Sohag Gazi also hit a century of 146 runs off 181 balls including 12 boundaries and six sixes.  

Mosaddek and Gazi paired in the 7th wicket for a 137-run partnership in 29.3 overs.  

Alok Kapali grabbed three wickets for 63 runs. Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Nazmul Islam took two wickets each for East Zone.  

East Zone opened the 2nd innings on day-4 and scored 189 runs with unbeaten opening stand between centurion Liton Das and Irfan Sukkur in 41.3 overs.  

Liton hammered unbeaten 103 off 121, including 10 boundaries and two sixes, while Irfan Sukkur added another unbeaten figure of 75 runs off 128 balls.
