Bangladesh women eliminated from World Cup T20
Dhaka: Bangladesh women’s team was eliminated from the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Cricket race with 3rd successive defeat after conceding a 49-run defeat against West Indies women’s in their Group B match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.
Bangladesh also made a frustrating start in the shorter version of the ongoing global cricket losing to hosts India by a huge 72 runs in the inaugural match and went down in the race after suffering a 36-run defeat against England in the 2nd match.
Replying to West Indies fighting total 148 runs on Sunday, Bangladesh were all out for 99 runs in 18.3 overs due to lower and middle order collapse, except Nigar Sultana and Fargana Haque.
Bangladesh made a good start scoring 35 runs for 2 in 6.2 overs with opener Sanjida Islam scoring run-a-ball 14 hitting three fours and her opening partner Sharmin Akhter making 16-ball 11 runs with one four.
Number six Nigar Sultana contributed the team highest run-a-ball 27 hitting two boundaries while one-down Fargana Haque made a 25-ball 17 runs with a boundary, among the four Bangladeshi scorers reaching the double figure.
Caribbean captain Stafanie Taylor, who scored the team’s 2nd highest 40 runs, displayed his brilliance in bowling too claiming three Bangladesh wickets for 13 runs and was adjudged the player of the match.
Matthews and Dotting took two wickets each conceding 16 and 17 runs respectively.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, the Caribbean women’s made a flying start scoring 67 runs in 11.4 overs in the opening stand.
Opener Hayley Mattthews contributed the team highest 41 runs off 42 balls hitting four boundaries while another opener cum Caribbean captain Stafanie Taylor made 41-ball 40 runs featuring two fours and one six.
Two down Deandra Dotting quick-fired 11-ball 24 runs hitting three boundaries while number five SACA King remained not out on 20 runs off 15 balls with two boundaries.
B Copper (9) and SA Campbelle (not out 5) were the other contributors for the West Indies.
Bangladeshi slow left arm orthodox bowler Nahida Akhter restricted the Caribbean score in a chase able position grabbing three wickets for 27 runs in her four-over spell featuring first three wickets of Matthews, skipper Taylor and Copper.
Rumana Ahmed took the remaining wicket of Dotting giving away 31 runs in her four overs spell.
