Dhaka: Shakib Al Hasan, widely regarded as the greatest cricketer to have ever played for Bangladesh, was born on this day (March 24) in 1987 in Magura.

Shakib put up a decent show against India in the T20 World Cup on the eve of his 30th birthday. He took a wicket for 23 runs in four overs and also scored 22 runs of 15 balls. But yet, his team’s shocking 1-run loss in a match which it should have won easily.

Bangladesh needed two runs off three balls at one stage with four wickets in hand but could not take any run off those deliveries and lost three wickets to lose the match by a single run. The loss also knocked them out of the World Cup.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is a vital cog in Bangladesh’s line-up.

He has been a consistent performer for his country, over the years.  Shakib first came into notice when he played cricket for several villages near his hometown of Magura.

Already he has played 42 Test matches and scored 2823 runs, and got 147 wickets. He has also played 53 T20s, but arguably his best performance has been in ODI’s for Bangladesh.

He scored 4398 ODI runs with 30 fifties and 6 hundreds. With the bat he averages 35.18, to go with 206 ODI wickets.
