Tigers face Kiwis today
Dhaka: Bangladesh will play their last Group-2 match of the ICC World Twenty20 Super-10 stage against New Zealand at iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday.
The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 Bangladesh time.
With the heart-breaking one-run loss to India in mind, Tigers’ skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza hoped that his players will play hard in the last match.
‘Early recovery from the last match is difficult, but boys have had some time to think about it. Obviously, you can’t return to it,’ Mashrafe said.
Bangladesh never tasted any victory in the shortest format of cricket against New Zealand in their previous two encounters.
New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 59 runs in their first meeting in the World T20, Sri Lanka in 2012 and won the second one by 15 runs in Mirpur in November 2013.
Bangladesh have already been eliminated from the race conceding three successive defeats in the super-10 stage against Pakistan, Australia and India.
The Bengal Tigers reached the Super-10 stage as Group-A champion with unbeaten record while New Zealand got the direct entry.
The Tigers started their tournament campaign with an 8-run win against the Netherlands while shared match points with Ireland as the match at Dharamsala was washed out due to persistent rain and defeated ICC associate Oman by 54 runs in the last match.
On the other hand, New Zealand have already confirmed their semifinal berth maintaining the top slot in the table with three successive victories.
New Zealand started their campaign upsetting hosts India by 47 runs, defeated Australia by 8 runs and Pakistan by 22 runs.
