Dhaka: Though the official announcement has not been declared yet, Bangladesh have moved up two places to fifth in the ICC ODI Team Rankings following its series victory and outstanding performances in ODI matches recently.

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan Papon on Monday confirmed the great news for Bangladesh cricket team to media after returning home from a meeting with the ICC.

Bangladesh have not played any one-day international (ODI) matches recently. But Bangladesh’s ODI rating points have been moved up to 101 from 97 as the ICC have updated the year-long performances of its members, the BCB president said.

Earlier Mashrafe Mortaza’s men have moved up one place to seventh in the Reliance ICC ODI Team Rankings following its series win against India in 2015. Bangladesh had entered the series in eighth position on 88 points, fraction of a point behind the West Indies in the same year.

Bangladesh have been displaying outstanding performances in ODI format since November 2014. Tigers will directly compete in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 without playing pre-qualifying round if they will hold their position in the ICC ODI ranking.

Australia ranked the first position with 128 points while New Zealand ranked the second with 117 points.  India ranked the third with 115 points while South Africa ranked the fourth with 114 points.
