Some Indian cricket supporters pin Indian star batsman Virat Kohli's poor performance in the ICC World Cup 2015 second semi-final against Australia on Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma.

Indians were swift to point fingers after the country's cricket team lost Thursday's match to Australia in the World Cup semifinals by 95 runs.

India's star batsman lasted just 13 balls before he attempted to pull paceman Mitchell Johnson only to loft a catch for wicketkeeper Brad Haddin in the 16th over.

Kohli's girlfriend Anushka Sharma looked on glumly in the stands as India lost wickets in a jiffy.

Bollywood star Anushka Sharma, player Virat Kohli's girlfriend, was the subject of fury on social media after the cricketer was out after striking only one run.

Many Twitter users blamed Anushka Sharma, who came to Sydney for the match, saying she distracted Kohli.

In a twitter message a supporter Kamaal R Khan said, ‘Anushka Sharma went to Australia to bring them back so congrats to her for successful operation.’

In reply another supporter, Singh Saab said, ‘This is what happens when Anushka is in stadium.’

Virat Kohli dropped a catch in the match.  In response, Madhavan Narayan posted message in his verified twitter page, ‘The catch that did not miss- Anushka.’

Some fans opposed the blame saying ‘How is one man’s girlfriend responsible for the collective failure of 11 men? Seriously! This is misogyny at its nastiest’.

National award-winning Indian film director, script writer and producer Madhur Bhandarkar posted in his verified twitter page, ‘The venom with which Anushka Sharma is being targeted after India’s defeat is not only shocking but also disgusting.’

This isn't the first time Anushka Sharma has been blamed for Virat Kohli's playing.

‘Why should I be responsible for Virat's performance on the field?’ Anushka told the Indian television channel NDTV earlier this month. ‘It's primitive to call me a distraction.’
