CPL: Shakib’s all-round show earns Tallawahs 108 runs win

Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan tuned Jamaica Tallawahs a huge 108-run win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 17th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica on Sunday morning (Bangladesh time).  

After hammering the maiden CPL half century of 54 off 47-ball in the last match against Guyana Amazon Warriors at the same venue on Saturday, Shakib again showed on his all-round form collecting unbeaten 34 off 17 balls that witnessed five boundaries and one six.

With ball he conceded an economic figure of 2 to dismiss 2 wickets in 2 overs, reports UNB.  

In the penultimate delivery of the innings, Shakib fired a boundary and took a single in the last ball, both delivered by Krishmar Santokie, while his side collected a formidable figure of 183 for 6 in 20 overs.

Shakib started to show, after Andre Russell (16 off 15b), from 139/5 in 16 overs pairing with Andre AM McCarthy to contribute 39 in 3.4 overs in the  6th wicket stand that carried the team total to 178/6 in 19.4 overs, before McCarthy (9 off 7b) was caught by  Jonathan Carter off Santokie’s bowling.

Lankan batter Kumar Sangakkara boosted Tallawahs collection and was adjudged man of the match staying for top-scoring 65 off 47 balls that witnessed seven boundaries and two sixes.

Sangakkara left the ground at 139/4 in 15.5 overs as he was caught by Shamarh Brooks off Santokie.

Number-4 batsman Rovman Powell was another notable scorer for the side, was sent in to bat first, with 35 off 23 involving four boundaries and one six.

Santokie bagged three wickets for 24 in four overs while Tabraiz Shamsi and Sheldon Cottrell took one wicket each. 

Chasing a massive target of 184, Patriot finished the innings with tiny figure of 75 for all 15.5 overs.

Number-4 batsman Jonathan Carter (23 off 20b), opening batsman Evin Lewis (17 off 16b), Krishmar Santokie (16 off 19b) and skipper Faf du Plessis (12 off 13b) were the double figure scorers for the side.

Kesrick Williams bagged three wickets for 19 runs in four overs while Shakib Al Hasan, Dale Steyn and AD Russell took two wickets each for 2, 5 and 11 runs respectively. 

With this win, Jamaica Tallawahs collected nine points from six encounters having four wins, one loss and one no result; just behind one points from the table topper Guyana Amazon Warriors collected 10 form seven matches.
